Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Nike is recruiting 539 extra employees at its distribution centres in Laakdal, Ham and Herentals. The centres deal with the distribution of sports products to Western, Central and Eastern Europe. Some 430 of the new employees wil be hired for the picking, packing and shipping of the sports products. Another 40 new employees, having a bachelors or masters degree, are being hired as managers. Finally, also extra planners, maintenance technicians and IT technicians/professionals are being hired.
The Trade Union BBTK reacted positively to the announcement of extra jobs, as the region has suffered from major restructuring job losses in recent years (closure of Ford Genk, Heinz Turnhout and steady job losses at Philips).
