Description
Philips Lighting in Turnhout is to cut another 159 jobs, 82 white-collar employees and 77 blue-collar employees. The restructurings at the establishment follow in rapid succession: the previous restructuring occurred at the end of 2014 (140 jobs cut) and there have been a series of job reductions on at least an annual basis in recent years. The Turnhout facility is Philips' last major production unit in Belgium and employs just over a 1000 workers. The section that deals with shops and shop-window lighting has been experiencing specific difficulties recently. Causes cited are the economic crisis and increasing online trade.
