Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Beaulieu International group is restructuring its Technical Textiles unit in order to cope with decreasing demand. The establishment in Kruishoutem will be closed and all activities will be transferred to the group's establishment in Komen, 30km away. 130 employees will lose their jobs. The management of Beaulieu claims that all employees prepared to work in Komen will be offered a job. The trade union is denouncing this offer and describes the situation as a hidden restructuring.
