Description
ICL UK has announced plans to cut 220 employee positions at its mine in Boulby near Redcar. The move is part of a major restructure at the site which will see the company move from the production of potash to the more environmentally friendly polysulphate. The diminishing potash reserves lie behind the company's decision to undertake this major business shift. In addition to the 220 employee positions a further 140 contractor positions are also expected to be lost. Consultation has already started over the loss of the 220 jobs.
Update 15/08/2016: Parent company ICL has announced that a further 140 jobs will be lost at Cleveland Potash Mine located in Boulton. Consultation with trade unions has commenced and the 140 jobs expected to go by the end of 2016. The further job losses are due to depletion of potash fertiliser reserves at the site.
