Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
It has been reported that IT company Tech Mahindra has confirmed the loss of 200 jobs from its offices in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The losses are expected to take effect on 3 January 2016. The job cuts follow the loss of a contract with the mobile phone and Internet provider EE. The contract is not being reallocated; EE are taking the work in-house. The loss of the contract is particularly damaging for Tech Mahindra as it formed the 'primary source' of income for the company. A spokesman for the company stated that they will offer compensation and adequate aid with job transitions for the affected employees.
