Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The commercial court of Paris has agreed the takeover of the clothes manufacturer and retailer Gérard Darel by the group HGDLMA, which will result in the loss of 130 jobs. The company was placed in receivership in June 2015. The new owners will invest €40 million and keep 630 of the 760 employees in France (the group employs a total workforce of 1100 employees worldwide). HGDLMA is owned by the family who created the Gérard Darel brand. Gérard Darel has 300 shops worldwide, half of which are in France, with a turnover of €200 million. The new owners must face a decrease of clothes sales in France and sharp competition with new competitors.
