Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
R Stahl, a German product, system and service provider for explosion protection, will cut at least 120 jobs by the end of this year in Waldenburg, Weimar and Cologne. About half of these job cuts will affect temporary workers. In addition, the company will cut another 105 out of 2,000 jobs worldwide with the aim of recude cost.
The company generates about half of its turnover from the oil and gas industry but these industries have been suffering from low oil prices and thus investments in these segments have been reduced. According to the company, further 100 jobs may be at risk of redundancy. Currently, R Stahl employs 2,000 employees worldwide and 900 of these are working at its headquarter in Waldenburg.
