Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Przewozy Regionalne (PR), the Polish regional passenger train operator, has announced that up to 2,000 positions will be cut via voluntary dismissal programme within next two years. The programme will affect employees from the departments of technical maintenance and train teams. The conditions of the restructuring programme have been negotiated with the local trade unions. The redundant workers will receive severance pay amounting 12 months’ wages. The company estimates the programme will costs PLN 107 mn (EUR 25.38mn USD 28.78mn). The programme is a part of larger restructuring plan of company aiming at increasing financial effectiveness.
