Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Spanish publishing group Everest has achieved an agreement with its work council that will result in the dismissal of 100 workers in León. The remaining 27 workers will stay in the company for a few more months in order to liquidate the stock of books. The group is closing due to a lack of funds, and the unwillingness of investors to deposit the required €100,000 before the deadline of September 30. Everest group has three companies: Editorial Everest (70 employees), Evergraficas (54 employees) and Editorial Ediciones (17) employees. The current dismissals will affect workers from Editorial Everest and Evergraficas. Workers from Editorial Ediciones were affected by a previous employment adjustment in 2012.
