Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Call centre company HGS Europe has announced plans to create 500 new jobs. 200 of the jobs will be located in the company's site at Selkirk in the Scottish Borders with a further 300 jobs at the site in Preston, Lancashire. The company is owned by Indian firm Hinduja Global Solutions Ltd which operates a global network of call centres. The new jobs are reported to be in customer service and technical helpdesk positions. The Selkirk jobs are reported to be providing support for clients including Lloyds Banking and Astra Zeneca. It is not known when the new jobs will be filled.
