Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Rolls-Royce has announced employer-employee negotiations concerning 100 job losses in its facility at Rauma. The unit manufactures azimuth thrusters. The demand for this product in offshore industry has fallen abruptly due to the low prices of oil and reduced offshore drilling activity. The thrusters are used especially in drilling vessels, rigs and maintenance vessels, tugboats and ferry boats. Rolls-Royce AB employs around 600 persons in Finland, the majority (510) in the Rauma unit.
Update 2015-10-01: The co-determination negotiations ended in late September and 86 workers will be leaving the company.
