Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Multinational telecom supplier Alcatel-Lucent is to sell its plant at Eu (Seine-Maritime) to Selha Group. The project will lead to 83 job cuts. Exclusive negotiations have started with the Selha Group (750 employees) which will take over the plant in June 2016. Alcatel-Lucent will finance a social plan with a voluntary departures plan based on age and seniority and also including internal mobility possibilities. The workforce will decrease from the current 305 employees to 222 by June 2016, “with no forced dismissals”, according to management
In October 2013, Alcatel-Lucent announced a worldwide restructuring with over 10,000 job cuts including 900 in France. The plan foresaw the sale of Eu plant but not the job reduction. In January 2015, Alcatel-Lucent decided to reduce the workforce to facilitate the sale.
