European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Offshore drilling company Maersk Drilling is to cut 190 jobs as two drilling rigs in Norway are off contract from this autumn.
The fall in crude prices and subsequent reduced activity in the North Sea has resulted in a difficult contract situation for the company. Drilling rig Maersk Giant will be off contract in September, while Maersk Guardian will be off contract from October.
The company currently has 1300 employees on the Norwegian continental shelf, from all parts of the country. It is yet to be determined which employees will be made redundant. Selection will be based on seniority, as far as possible. The restructuring will affect all parts of the company, but the site of Rogaland and Stavanger will be especially hard hit. Union representatives state that the cuts are highly unfortunate, but likely inevitable given the current situation.
