Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Logistic company Kuehne + Nagel is to cut 127 jobs at Libercourt. The trade unions have announced the closure of the site that works exclusively for the supermarket network Carrefour. The management has started to negotiate an employment saving plan that will lead to cuts of about 127 positions.
Carrefour has decided to reorganise its logistics in the framework of a plan called “Caravelle”. This plan will lead to the end of contracts between Carrefour and three sites owned by Kuehne + Nagel in France. One of those will be maintained for one more year and a second has found two new customers to maintain its activities. According to the unions, the site could close by January 2016. The management of Carrefour group have announced that redundant workers will be offered new jobs but the trade unions are not satisfied with the plan proposed.
