Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Coca-Cola plans to shut down its plants in Osnabrück and Haselünne which will affect around 123 employees. Coca-Cola wants to concentrate its beverage production at the company's larger plants in the north-west region (i.e. in Dorsten, Köln, Mönchengladbach and Hildesheim). The filling plant in Osnabrück will close by the end of August and the plant's logistics department will close by the end of 2015. The logistics centre in Haselünne will equally cease to exist by the end of September 2015. These closures will affect a total of 123 employees, 106 out of 138 staff in Osnabrück and 17 out of 30 staff in Haselünne. In order to avoid redundancies employees are offered alternative jobs at other sites, partial retirement options or severance pay.
