Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Welsh online cosmetics retailer has announced the creation of 100 new jobs. The jobs will be located in the company’s new distribution centre that will be located in Cardiff. In line with policy to support digital entrepreneurship and local economic development, Escentual received support from the Welsh government to ensure the business remains in Wales. In addition to the 100 new jobs that will be created as a result of the expansion, a further 20 jobs will be retained in Wales. Set up in 2000, Escentual is an online seller of luxury cosmetics, fragrances, skincare, makeup and hair care products. The new distribution centre is three times larger than its previous site. By moving to this bigger site, the company plans to increase the number of product lines from 5,000 to 15,00 across the next two to three years. The company recruits from Welsh universities and through support schemes put in place by the Welsh Government to support start-ups and new business expansion.
