Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
La-Nika Baltic Ltd., the company engaged in the production of apparel and belonging to the Danish United Textile Group, is to dismiss around 300 employees in Vilnius. According to preliminary information, the Danish company is moving the production from Lithuania to cheaper labour countries (Bangladesh, Ukraine, Turkey). Currently the United Textile Group owns 9 apparel production factories (6 of them are in Turkey). Although the management of La-Nika Baltic Ltd. denied the possibility of bankruptcy, since April 2015 the company has already dismissed more than 100 employees.
