Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Bedding manufacturer and wholesaler Kozee Sleep Beds has been placed in administration resulting in the loss of 160 jobs. On 20 May 2015, the company ceased trading and workers were given notice of potential redundancy and sent home. Just over one week later, the administrators decided that the company was not viable as an ongoing concern and the160 workers were made redundant. While the workforce totalled 174 staff, administrators have retained 14 workers in the short-term to assist with winding up the company.
The business was located in Dewsbury in West Yorkshire and its product range included adjustable beds, headboards and orthopaedic beds.
