Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Food service company ESS Support Services is to dismiss 120 employees. The staff reduction comes in addition to a previous round of restructuring in autumn 2014 which affected 100 permanent employees. The cuts are made in response to declining level of petroleum activity on the Norwegian continental shelf. The company will be dismissing personnel working in food and cleaning services on offshore installations in Norwegian waters.
Union representatives in the company have previously reacted negatively to how the restructuring process has been handled, stating that the company did not play by the rules. This issue is now resolved, according to CEO Therese Log Bergjord, who has highlighted the importance of working with the unions.
