Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The German producer of compressors for refrigerators and freezers, Secop , is relocating parts of its production from Austria to Slovakia by the end of 2016, making 120 employees redundant.
Secop took over the insolvent ACC Austria in 2013 but has not been able to make it operate profitably. The company set out plans to outsource major production processes to its site in Zlate Moravce, Slovakia, where a competence centre will be build. In Fürstenfeld, Austria, only highly automated production lines will remain. However, Furstenfeld will continue as a major location for developing the latest technology for the Secop Group.
Job cuts will probably be completed by the end of 2015. No further details on company support for the affected employees have been announced so far.
