Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 30 March, the commercial court of Strasbourg has decided to liquidate the supermarket network Coop Alsace leading to the dismissal of the last 150 employees by the end of April. The court also has approved the only takeover plan presented which implies the re-employment of 12 employees by a local entreprise.
The company has experienced four social plans in the last six years: the most recent in 2013 and 2011. In 2013, it cut about 210 positions whilein 2012, the group launched a voluntary redundancy plan with 409 departures. The group employed 4,200 employees in 2009. Several legal proceedings are pending against former managers accused of embezzlement.
