Description

The German automobile, motorcycle and engine manufacturer BMW has announced that it intends to create more than 8,000 permanent jobs this year. As ERM has previously reported, more than 5,000 of the new hires will be located in Germany. Due to high demand, the company needs more skilled workers at its German production sites and its international production network. New hires will be engineers – notably specialist workers in areas like fuel-efficient and alternative propulsion and lightweight construction – as well as IT specialists and software developers. The company moreover hopes to attract more female workers.

The BMW works council head had already announced 5000 new jobs in mid-February, but BMW refused to comment on the numbers at that point. The company has been increasing the size of its workforce for years. In 2014, it created 7,000 new jobs worldwide, half of them in Germany.
