Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Bausch & Lomb is creating 125 new jobs at its plant in Waterford as part of a €75 million investment. The company, which makes contact lenses, was taken over by Valeant in 2013. The following year the company sought redundancies as well as pay cuts. This was agreed after the owners agreed to increase investment in the plant. In November 2014, a €41 million investment and 50 jobs were announced. The new announcement of 125 jobs is a further measure, and these new jobs are expected to be filled by the end of 2015. Bausch & Lomb currently employ 1000 people in Waterford.
