Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Klenk Holz, a German sawmill and timber company, will cut 120 out of 650 jobs at its plant in Oberrot. The main reason for the job reduction is that the company wants to adapt its production capacity to market needs and to secure the company’s competitiveness in the long run. According to the CEO, the company’s cutting volume of wood has decreased by 40 pc over the past few years which now requires a reduction of personnel. The decision was heavily criticised by the works council. K
