Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 7 April 2015, the management of SCA announced the closure of the Saint-Cyr-en-Val site The site will be closed by October and all 119 employees will lose their jobs.
In early 2015, the company had discontinued the production of hygiene paper and decided to focus on paper towel. This decision accounted for a loss of 2,900 tons of production. The headquarters of SCA in Sweden no longer believe that the site is sufficiently profitable.
According to Alexander Baillavoine, the CFDT union delegate, "even though we knew it would happen, there was still a glimmer of hope for the disillusioned employees who must now continue working as if nothing had happened."
