Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
G&G, a metal construction company in Willebroek, has indicated that it will close due to declining demand and lack of orders. In total, 90 blue-collar workers and 50 white collar workers will lose their jobs. The company has reported a loss in each of the last seven quarters and was already making recourse to temporary unemployment schemes. Trade unions agree with the diagnosis of strong competition in the sector and declining order books for the company but suggest mismanagement as one cause of the announced closure.
