Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Food company Alpro, a subsidiary of the American company WhiteWave, is investing 80 million euro in 2015 in new production lines, the bulk of it in Belgium. The company will recruit 250 new employees in total, of which 200 for the Belgian establishment in Wevelgem. Alpro produces vegetable-based drinks and food products (soya milk, coconut milk, almond milk). The market for these products is growing at around 15-20% per annum and Alpro's sales have surpassed the industry average growth rates. Alpro's investment will amount to 8 new production lines bringing the total number of production lines to 26. The largest Alpro establishment, in Wevelgem, will benefit from 5 of the new production lines. The remainder will be added to another company establishment in the UK.
