Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Power cables producer Prysmian announced the closure of the Ascoli Piceno site, which employs 120 workers. The company employs about 2,000 workers in nine Italian plants, which have been suffering a reduction of domestic demand for three years, resulting in budget losses and contraction of production. Wages Guarantee Funds have been already activated at the Italian sites and are to expire in March 2015.
The unions called for a strike and said that the decision was taken after the company had received public subsidies to invest in another Italian plant. Unions asked for a meeting with the company management over its investment intentions concerning Ascoli Piceno and the other Italian sites.
