Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Zumtobel, Austrian manufacturer of lighting technology, will cut 70 out of 525 jobs at its German plant in Lemgo. The company wants to reduce the production volume in Lemgo in order to become more competitive.
According to the company's works council Zumtobel employees are afraid of the restructuring and want to further negotiate. The company’s turnover has increased by four percent during the first nine months of the current business year.
The job cuts are part of a broader restructuring programme at Zumtobel. Currently, the company employs around 7,100 people worldwide.
