Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Lincolnshire-based vegatable grower, Produce World, has annouced plans to cut 340 jobs at two of its sites. The Butterwick site near Boston and the Swinderby site are due to close; the sites employ 250 and 90 people respectively. The company has begun the process of statutory consultation and the jobs will not be ended until that consultation has concluded. The company has decided to make the changes in response to increased competition and changing shopping habits. In addition to the job cuts a further 60 jobs will be created in Wykeham in a collaboration with Lincolshire Field Products. Further jobs are expected at another joint venture site in Isleham, Cambridgeshire.
