Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The large retail firm, Penneys, is creating 280 new jobs with the opening of a new store in Liffey Valley shopping centre. The Liffey Valley store is expected to open in 2016. It also adding 36 new positions to its existing Jervis St. store, which is undergoing investment.
The company is, however, closing its store in Naas, Co Kildare, affecting 22 employees. These staff are to be offered redeployment opportunities other Penneys stores.
The company, one of the largest employers in the industry, already employs around 3,550 people.
