Description

Discount supermarket chain, Aldi, is reported to be opening a further 70 stores across the UK in 2015. It is understood that this will result in approximately 5,000 new jobs being created. It is expected that of these 150 jobs will be for store managers and 300 jobs for assistant stores managers. This latest recruitment drive follows the opening of over 50 stores in 2014. Aldi currently operates 560 stores across the UK and is mounting an increasing challenge to the market share of the 'big four' supermarkets.

UPDATE. On 5 August 2015 Aldi announced a further expansion in its stores.  Some of these had been included in the previous announcement.  The company confirmed that it would increase the current number of UK stores from 560 to 1,000 creating 8,000 jobs.  This figure for jobs is 3,000 higher than the previous announcement.  The move continues the trend of expansion among the discount supermarkets as they increase their market share compared with the traditional big names in the sector.
