Shipyard Brodosplit, in Split, needs to increase its workforce by 2600 workers and thus will immediately employ 1000 new people.
After winning an international tender for Consortium "Venezia Nuova“ to build steel gates for two mouths, Brodosplit needs to increase its workforce. The project that will be executed by Brodosplit consists of the delivery of 41 steel floodgates, with dimensions of 29x24 meters, a thickness of 6 meters and weight of 300 tons. It includes over 12,000 tonnes of built-in steel and the tender is worth approximately € 50 million. The works are to commence immediately.
To cope with the demand of the project, Brodosplit thus needs 2598 workers over the next two years in one of the 14 metalworker professions. It immediately needs almost a thousand workers, like cutters, straighteners, grinders, welders, locksmiths, electricians and workers of other similar occupations.
These workers are needed immediately though the hiring process has been difficult. Although there are approximately 3200 of such workers registered with the Croatian Employment Service, most of them are not willing to move and/or work in Split shipyard. The Furthermore, the Ministry of Labour and Pension Systems is not willing to approve and issue the licences for workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina for these jobs. The reasoning behind this is that there is a high level of unemployment in Croatia, and these positions should thus be filled by Croatian workers.
As a result of the insufficient supply of new workers, Brodosplit is preparing its own internal educational and qualification programmes for interested workers who do not have adequate qualifications but have interest in such a job.
