Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Spanish bus company Autobuses de León, a subsidiary of ALSA Group, announced that it will employ 300 new bus drivers by the end of the year, 100 of which will be hired immediately. Autobuses de León won the bid to operate the Maltese bus service, taking over from the government operated Unscheduled Bus Service which employed a total of 700 workers. Autobuses de León announced that it will provide its services under the name Malta Public Transport and will retain all workers currently employed, bringing the total number to about 1,000 employees by the end of 2015. The company will be receiving a government subsidy of €23 million this year, which will increase to €29 million next year.
