Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Salamander, German manufacturer of windows and doors, announced its plan to reduce its workforce by 50-54 positions in its Papenburg site. The company currently employs a total of 250 staff at this location. The job reduction will be affected by June 2015.
The company is planning to relocate the production of window profiles to Poland. According to the company production in Germany is no longer profitable. The job reduction shall be implemented in a socially accepted manner and severance payments will be offered.
The Salamander group currently employs 1,200 people in total and has recently run a turnover of €200 million. For Papenburg, an annual turnover of €30 million is forcasted. Salamander had already cut 80 jobs in 2013.
