German automobile manufacturer Daimler will cut 650 out of 6,500 jobs in Düsseldorf by 2020.
As the result of negotiations between works council and management, the reduction shall be implemented by severance payments and by not reoccupying vacant jobs. Operational dismissals are excluded.
The works council had previously estimated that up to 1,800 jobs could be affected. In order to save costs, Daimler is planning to produce the next generation of the transporter Sprinter in Mexico as well as the US.
