Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Retail chain Metro Cash & Carry announced its plan to cease all its operations in Denmark by the end of 2014. As reported, 400 jobs will be lost after the closure of three warehouses in Aalborg, Kolding and Copenhagen and its headquarters, while 300 jobs will be safeguarded due to a planned takeover of its two sites in Aarhus and Glostrup by Euro Cater. Acording to the sources, the reason for the closure is a decreasing position at the the Danish market due to a negative turnover. Updated, 28-11-2014: As reported, the previously announced takeover of the two warehouses in Aarhus and Glostrup by Euro Cater has been cancelled. 700 jobs will be lost after the withdrawal of Metro Cash & Carry in Denmark.
