Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Building contractor Persimmon Homes has announced that it is to create up to 500 new jobs throughout 2015. The company has headquarters in York, though the location of the new jobs is not specified. Persimmon has strong links with the armed forces. In 2013 it signed the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant, and it encourages trainees to be reservists. The 500 jobs will be for ex-servicemen and women. The company has enlisted Nordic Focus Training to train people leaving the armed forces in joinery and bricklaying. It is reported that the first of the new employees started in October 2014 and that recruitment will continue throughout 2015.
