Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Termoelektrarna Trbovlje (TET) is a coal thermal power station with 160 employees which is located in Trbovlje in Zasavska region. TET has been having liquidity problems for quite some time because the market price of electricity is not high enough to cover production costs. Indeed, the power plant produces an estimated loss of EUR 1 million per month. Negotiations to sell TET to a Swill based company did not come to a successful end. As a result, the majority owner Holding slovenske elektrarne (HSE) decided to liquidate TET. Of 160 employees, 40 will be reallocated within HSE, while 120 will lose their job.
