Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Vorsevi Qualitas, an engineering and construction consulting firm, will apply for a collective redundancy procedure (ERE) affecting 102 employees (70% of its entire workforce). As reported, dismissals are expected to take place between December 2014 and January 2015. The restructuring plan envisages the closure of the sites located in Malaga, Jaen, Extremadura and Granada, while the site in Seville will be the only one remaining with about 30 employees.
According to the sources, negotiations with the employees are currently taking place. The job reduction measure is considered necessary due to economic reasons with losses originating from the second 2008 semester. In 2012, Vorsevi Qualitas made redundant 63 people.
