Description
The French Ministry of Defence has unveiled plans to cut 7,500 jobs in 2015. As announced, the job reduction measure is part of the government’s efforts to reduce the budget deficit. The plan envisages, among others, the dissolution of a marine artillery unit and the closure of the headquarters of the first mechanised brigade in Châlons en Champagne, raising concerns about the possible impact on the local economy. In addition, a military hospital located in Paris (hôpital du Val-de-Grâce) is to close.
The announced restructuring is in the framework of the Military Planning Act 2014-2019 (loi de programmation militaire), that envisages 24,000 job cuts.
