Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Tamworth based concrete pumping business Professional Concrete Pumping is reported to have ceased trading on 13 October 2014. It was reported that the company which employs more than 100 people was expected to make a further announcement on the fate of the jobs, but as of 27 October such an announcement has not been forthcoming, despite meetings between staff and managers reported to have taken place.
Up until last year the company traded under the Pochin name, which it had started under in 1969. It had run up losses in the recession and was sold for £1 in 2012. The decision to stop trading is being reported as something of a shock given that the company embarked on a major expansion drive last year.
