Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Prevent Halog is a Slovenian company which produces car seat covers. Based in Lenart (Podravska region), it employs 499 employees. Their main current customer, the German multinational company Daimler, recently decided to discontinue its orders and to procure car seat covers from the Czech Republic. As a result 412 employees are expected to lose their job. The remaining 87 workers will be moved to IMS Avtomotivi, the company which will take over the remaining activities of Prevent Halog. In November 2012, 213 jobs were cut due to internal restructuring (see FS 74549).
