Description
Pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim announced plans to cut up to 600 jobs in Germany by 2016. As reported, in the framework of a cost saving restructuring plan due to weak success of certain products and a decreasing turnover, the group announced its intention to cut approximately 1,000 jobs in Germany by the end of 2018 aiming at 15pc or € 450 million cost reduction. According to the sources, the company has started negotiations with the employee representatives and the final decision will be made by the end of 2014.
As mentioned by the company, most possibly there will be no forced redundancies and the measure will be based in hiring freeze and non-replacement of jobs lost through natural attrition. The sites in Dortmund and Hannover, as well as the biopharmaceutical production in Biberach and the production in Ingelheim will not be affected.
Boehringer Ingelheim has approximately 14,000 staff in Germany and 46,000 worldwide.
