Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Welsh based printing company MWL Print has closed with the loss of over 100 jobs. The company which was based on the Pontyfelin Industrial Estate in Pontypool closed on Friday 29 August 2014. All 113 employees have lost their jobs. The company has been in business since 1973 and printed a range of products including prospectuses for universities, billboards and exhibition stands. Signs that the company was facing increased competition came last year when pre-tax profits fell by £295,000.
The source reports that there had been some speculation that the company would be subject to a management buy-out, but this has not come to fruition.
