Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Energy supplier Extraenergy, a company which has already achieved significant market share in Germany, is looking to expand its UK operations. It currently employs 280 staff at an interim site in central Birmingham, but has announced that there will be significant expansion over the coming months. It is set to move into a new office within the city and will have a total of 1,000 staff within twelve months. A spokesperson for the company said that it was anticipated that staff numbers would reach 500 by Christmas 2014 and 1000 in twelve months time.
The roles which are to be created will be customer based - in telemarketing, customer service and credit management.
