Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Pharmaceutical company Bristol Laboratories has announced plans to create 300 jobs as part of a five year expansion plan in the North East of England. The company has recently acquired a new manufacturing site at the Whitehouse Business Park, Peterlee, County Durham. The site had previously been used for manufacture of household cleaning products.
The company which was established in 1997 operates a head office in Hertfordshire as well as a manufacturing plant in Luton, Bedfordshire and employs 320 people across these two sites. The expansion in the North East therefore will nearly double the firm's workforce. The firm currently makes common painkillers and antibiotics and supplies to the Department of Health. The new site will facilitate some product diversification.
