Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 6 August 2014, German manufacturer of special viscous fibresĀ Kelheim Fibres announced its plan to cut 100 jobs in the fourth quarter of the year. Both permanent and temporary employed workers will be affected. The company currently employs 620 people in total.
The management named declining demand and the loss of a big client as main reasons for the restructuring measure. The works council criticises that there are already very few employees in the company. Company representatives assured to reduce jobs in a socially acceptable manner. Details will be negotiated between management and works council during the following weeks.
