Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The board of the National health insurance system (Caisse nationale d'assurance maladie-CNAM) has agreed with the State to reduce its workforce by about 4500 by 2017 through non-replacement of retirees. The CNAM will replace 53% of the 9600 departures in retirement by 2017. This means it will recruit 5110 employees within this period and will not replace 4490 employees (about 6% of the current workforce). Since 2005, the workforce decreased by about 12% with the increased use of new technologies. For the government the aim is to reduce social security expenses of about 1.2 billion euro by 2017. Job cuts are also expected in the National pension system (Caisse nationale d'assurance vieillesse).
