Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 9 July 2014, Facilicom (catering, cleaning and other supporting services) and the unions reached an agreement on a social plan for the 180 employees (mainly providing cleaning and catering services) that will lose their job as a result of the closure Philip Morris plant in Bergen op Zoom. The agreement was reached after 10 days of strikes. As reported, the employees will get a relatively favourable redundancy payment and will receive assistance in finding new employment.
